Pine Tree Potters' Guild Members' Gallery

Artist: Cathy Harris

Artist Biography

Cathy began working with clay in 1987. After honing her skills, she taught a night school class for adults at a local High School, helped set up the studio and taught classes at the Newmarket School of Fine Art and continues teaching classes at the guild. She remains fascinated with its endless challenges and enormous potential to stimulate curiosity and satisfy the need to make objects of use and beauty. One of Cathy's best rewards is to see the look of surprise and delight on customers' faces when they first look inside one of her bowls. They may find themselves gazing into a nest of hatching eggs, a treasure trove of carrots, a hoard of acorns, or the hidden secrets of pond life. Her backyard water garden and the wild bunnies grazing in her garden provide the inspiration.

In her studio, aptly titled "Potter's Pleasure," she produces functional and decorative porcelain work. She has participated in juried exhibitions and shows across the GTA over the last 22 years. Her work includes many commissioned pieces such as the production of more than 800 bowls for Whiskas Cat Food, unique pieces for players and staff of the St. Louis Blues hockey team as well as individual clients on an on-going basis. She regularly sells her work in The Pine Tree Potters' Guild spring and fall sales.

Cathy has served on the Board of Directors of both the Pine Tree Potters' Guild and the Aurora Cultural Centre. She also holds memberships with FUSION, The Ontario Clay and Glass Association and the Ontario Arts Council. Cathy remains active in community fundraising events, sales and exhibitions for the Guild.
