Inside the Box
An Exhibition of Exquisite Small Ceramic Works

April 30 to May 3, 2015
at the Aurora Cultural Center

Inspired by the Orton Cone Box Competition sponsored by Orton Ceramics, Pine Tree Potters’ Guild hosted a juried exhibition and competition of small ceramic works in conjunction with their annual spring sale.

Orton is a company that produces pyrometric cones that are used to measure the amount of heat inside a kiln. The cones come in small boxes measuring 3”x 3” x 6”. Since 1975, a competition to celebrate small work, has been held every 2 to 3 years. The only criteria for the exhibition are that the work must be at least 50% clay and must be able to fit inside an Orton cone box. After that, it is up to the artist’s skill and imagination to create a unique and exquisite object.

Visitors to the Spring Sale had the opportunity to visit the exhibition and to cast a vote for the work that they liked best. The piece with the most votes will won a People’s Choice Award. The winner of the People’s Choice award will receive funds to cover the cost of shipping and the entry fee for submitting their work to the International Competition that will be held in Kansas City in 2016.
