Kendra Purdon

“Try Pottery” was on Kendra’s bucket list after seeing a resident historical potter at Sherbrook Village, Nova Scotia. She started classes at Pine Tree Potters in 2016 and became hooked on the versatility of clay as a medium. She joined Pine Tree Potters Guild as a member and assists with Empty Bowls and organizes PTP Spring & Fall sales. Originally, intrigued by ‘wheel’ pottery she became amazed with how soothing she finds hand building with slabs as well.

Kendra’s natural creativity, love of design, fondness of painting and interest in texture, shape and colour formulate her choices. Her work has clean, modern, simple lines and typically reflects her love of nature and rural Canada. Given her practical side, Kendra typically makes functional pieces she would use in her own home.

In her ‘Layers’ series her signature colors emulate those found in nature. The calm beach tones are relaxing. The textures are derived from her coastal walks. With colouration of dark sediment to sand, to water, to sunlight this pottery reflects the ‘layers of life’ that impact us along our way.

The combination of rock, water, white pines & blue skies of Canada’s north is majestic. Kendra’s ‘North’ pieces utilize multiple glazes which are hand painted in custom landscape designs to depict Canada’s North. Each of these unique pieces let you relate to Canadiana and breath in its beauty.
